Great Western Hospital, Swindon

What was
needed

One of the large car parks at Swindon’s Great Western Hospital required planing of its existing surface and then laying new SMA 10 wearing course.

Our client required 850m2 of planing and resurfacing works to be carried out with minimal disruption as the hospital remained open 24 hours a day. So, we scheduled the works to be carried out over a weekend. Due to high usage, the car park was in need of updating. We provided various options for our client, and they chose to use Tensar Geogrid in order to prolong the surface.

How we
achieved it

With our incredible staff and our professional supply chain, we exceeded our clients’ expectations and delivered this project on time and within budget.

Once the new surface was led, new white lining parking bays and directional instructions was applied.

Full scope of works included:

  • Planing of existing surface
  • Cart away of arisings
  • Hand trim, sweep and clean
  • Return visit for hot-applied bond coat
  • Tensar installation
  • New SMA10 wearing course
  • Fresh line marking

The car park is now designed and built to last for many years, providing patients and visitors with a safer, smoother and more comfortable parking experience.

A busy main road in Wiltshire was in need of a new surface. There were signs of underlying issues in the subbase, which might have needed to be addressed. Iron works and kerbs repairs were also required. Works had to be carried out at night over 3 shifts under a road closure.

Having been awarded the contract 3 weeks prior to the project start date, we had work to do. First, we identified the issues. The site is home to over 40 different haulier companies all with different daily delivery times, we had to make sure that access was always kept.
